S-2 gives birth to her calf; the calf’s arrival is indicated by the sound of S-2 licking and cleaning it. S-2’s hooves crunch on snow, indicating that the snowpack has not completely thawed on the calving grounds.

S-2 sniffs her calf while it suckles.
Vocalizing
S-2 calls to her calf, who answers back.

Sick Respirations
D-2 swallows frequently and exhibits signs of a respiratory infection.
Predation
D-2 is being actively predated in this recording. She was sick for several weeks before this event, evidenced by difficult breathing and a lack of normal activity patterns. An investigation at the mortality site revealed significant wolf sign and this is a suspected wolf mortality.
